The United States men’s national team suffered a tough defeat to the Netherlands on Saturday to see their World Cup dreams come to an end. The USMNT lost 3-1 against Memphis Depay and co. during the first match of the Round of 16, but they were the only team from CONCACAF to make it that far.
Ricardo Pepi, who was surprisingly not called to the tournament, was spotted wearing the Netherlands jersey in a dutch nightclub on Saturday night. It seems that the 19-year-old had made a bet with a teammate from Groningen and lost. In a video posted on social media, you can see that Ricardo Pepi was not happy to be wearing the Dutch jersey, but a bet is a bet.
Pepi getting ready for the Eredivisie to resume
Ricardo Pepi was sent on loan to FC Groningen this season and he has been in top form in the Eredivisie. The United States international has made nine league appearances scoring six goals and providing two assists. Pepi has earned the trust of manager Frank Wormuth and he has become a regular starter in his first months at the club.
The American striker has started eight games and he was substituted once. With Pepi looking great in the last few games, it came as a surprise that he was not called up to play at the World Cup this winter. The USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter decided to call up Jesús Ferreira, Josh Sargeant, and Haji Wright and none of them were able to score in Qatar.
